2024 Chevy Blazer

A black 2024 Chevy Blazer Premier is angled left.

From the Blazer's front end, with its distinctive grille and headlights, through its angular body lines and aggressively flared wheel arches, to its LED tail lamps, it's clear that this Blazer has gotten a major infusion of DNA from the iconic Camaro. Under the skin, it's also designed to drive more like a sports car than your typical SUV. And while an electric model is arriving soon, the 2024 Chevy Blazer gas model still offers thrills for the driver who'd rather be driving a sports car but needs SUV practicality.

The Blazer name has been carried by SUV models in the past, from the full-size Chevy C/K Blazers of the late 1960s through the 1990s to a truck-based midsize SUV of more recent decades. This Blazer is a totally different beast, although it still sits on the midsize SUV tier of Chevy's lineup along with the more traditional, SUV-like, 3-row Traverse. The Blazer is a unique model among Chevy's extensive SUV lineup, combining the head-turning curves of a Camaro coupled with all the space and power you demand from a reliable SUV.

Performance

A black 2024 Chevy Blazer is shown driving on a suburban street.

The current generation of Chevrolet Blazer represents a significant departure from its predecessors, particularly in how it's built. Unlike the old-fashioned body-on-frame design that characterized previous generations of Blazers, the latest Blazer boasts a modern, unibody construction. This structural shift provides several advantages that cater to the driver who prefers a sportier, car-like ride. It makes the Blazer lighter, more agile, and more responsive, delivering on the promise of its sporty looks.

Suspension

This is boosted by the Blazer's suspension setup. It's fully independent in both front and rear and tuned for a blend of smooth performance and optimized handling. Reviewers have noted the  Blazer's handling prowess, with Car and Driver mentioning its "athletic ride and handling" and U.S. News and World Report stating, "It does exceptionally well around corners." This is particularly true of the RS trim level, which is tuned for a sportier ride with its standard 20-inch and optional 21-inch wheels.

Engine Options

Under the hood, the performance theme continues. There are two choices: a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6. The four-banger is standard on the 2LT, 3LT, and Premier trim levels, while the V6 is standard on the RS and optional on the Premier. The turbo four produces 228 hp, along with 258 lb-ft. of torque. The V6 cranks out 308 hp, with 270 lb-ft. of torque. This engine offers 4,500 lbs of towing capacity when equipped with a trailering package. Both engines feature dual overhead cams, Variable Valve Timing, and Spark Ignition Direct Injection. Both include stop/start technology for improved fuel economy in around-town driving. They are both paired with a nine-speed automatic across all trim levels.

All-wheel drive (AWD) is available on most trim levels, while the Blazer RS offers an optional Advanced Twin-Clutch AWD. This system can deliver torque to either rear wheel independently, depending on which one has traction. This not only improves traction in slippery conditions but also offers sportier handling on dry roads, making it an excellent choice for the reluctant convert from sports cars to SUVs.

Fuel Economy

Fuel economy is also decent for this midsize SUV. The 2.0-liter turbo four achieves 22 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on the highway in front-wheel drive models. On AWD models, the numbers drop slightly to 22 MPG in the city and 27 on the highway. The V6 is thirstier at 19 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway if you opt for front-wheel drive. For those needing AWD, the V6 will give you 18 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway.

Interior

The Blazer continues the Camaro-inspired design theme inside the two-row, five-seat passenger interior. A prominent Camaro-inspired feature is the intuitive Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Control system, which features round air vents below the center stack. These vents not only add style but also offer a practical twist: drivers and passengers can easily adjust the temperature settings by twisting them.

Ample Cargo Space

The interior is spacious, with plenty of room in the back for passengers to stretch out. The cargo area has 64.2 cu.ft. of space with the rear seats folded. With 60/40 split folding rear seats, which also slide forward, multiple configurations allow you to stow an abundance of cargo. A power programmable liftgate is optional on some trims and standard on others, making access to the cargo area even easier.

Connectivity and Active Noise Cancellation

A 10.2-inch touchscreen comes standard in every model and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, making it easy to stay connected and entertained on the go. Wireless charging for compatible phones is standard in the RS and Premier models and available in both LT models. An available high-speed wireless hotspot supports up to seven devices. A special standard feature called Active Noise Cancellation contributes to the luxurious feel of the interior. It uses in-cabin microphones to detect and cancel out powertrain noise. It also quells vibrations, keeping the rumble of the road from penetrating the serenity of the cabin.

Safety

The Blazer offers a full suite of modern safety features. This includes the standard Chevy Safety Assist package. This package makes up a comprehensive set of driver assistance technologies. It features Automatic Emergency Braking, which can help mitigate or avoid collisions, and the Following Distance Indicator, which maintains a safe gap from the vehicle ahead. Additionally, it includes Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, and IntelliBeam automatic high beams. The Blazer's focus on safety pays off. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) awarded the 2024 Chevy Blazer an overall Crash Test Result of five stars out of five. On nine out of eleven criteria, the Blazer achieved a perfect five-star score; on the other two, it achieved four out of five.

OnStar Remote Access

For even more peace of mind, every 2024 Blazer comes standard with OnStar Remote Access. While this level of service doesn't provide emergency services, it does offer the ability to use your smartphone to lock and unlock your Blazer, so you'll never get stranded by locking your keys in the car. It also lets you start and stop the engine remotely. You can even check your tire pressure and fuel level remotely.

Other Notable Features

The remote tire pressure check is reassuring if you're concerned that one of your tires is getting low, but you might not feel safe getting out to check or you don't have a tire pressure gauge on hand. Every trim level besides the 2LT also offers optional HD Surround Vision. Not only does this feature help with parking, but its overhead view gives you a 360-degree view of the area around your vehicle. You can also select views to the side and rear, giving you full awareness in any situation.
